The Public Participation Program was established by the Army Corps as a way for the public to be able to communicate their comments and concerns regarding USACE restoration projects in their area quickly and easily. The intent of the program is to supply accurate and timely information regarding decisions effecting the restoration project, collect information about the community, give citizens the opportunity to voice their comments and concerns on the restoration project, and focus on resolving conflict.
Many different types of communication methods have been utilized throughout the remediation to open up pathways for the Army Corps to disseminate information to the public. Fact sheets, public meetings and articles are just a few of the methods that are used. Shown below is a chart detailing the FUDS Program time schedule for which public outreach efforts are to be made during various phases of the site restoration.
