In the early 1960's, the U.S. Military used this 3 acre site, originally obtained for construction of a proposed Air Force Reserve Training Facility, to display the F89 aircraft as a way of increasing public relations. The land, located at the northeast corner of Foothill Boulevard and Sunnyside Avenue in Salt Lake City, Utah, is presently the site of the University of Utah Research Park.

In 1992, staff from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, its agents, and the State of Utah Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) visited the site. Based on the site visits, records researched, and interviews conducted, it was determined that no adverse or potentially adverse environmental hazards exist related to Department of Defense (DoD) use. Currently, the No Further Department of Defense Actions Indicated (NDAI) recommendation is under review by the DEQ.
