Tooele Army Depot North Area (TEAD-N), established in 1942, has been a major ammunition storage center for the U.S. Army. Its primary function has been to receive, issue, store, maintain and dispose of munitions. The southwest comer of the depot consists of a former firing range and an Open Burn/Open Detonation (OB/OD) area, which has been used since the 1940s for various demilitarization activities including the destruction of munitions and propellant burning.

The site is considered ineligible for the FUDS program since it adjoins an active Department of Defense installation and the adjoining installation has already initiated the restoration (OE removal) of the site.
